Returning to Sport after Lockdown? Everything you need for your feet and ankles
Great news! Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has confirmed that there will be an easing of restrictions and we start looking towards the recommencement of sport. We have put together the following tips to help you get ready for the reboot of sport and minimise your risk of injury
1) Sport specific exercise
Many people have not been active in a sport-specific exercise so there is a higher risk of injury. Do you need to be conducting some sport-specific drills? Footlab+ can help with specific exercises.
2) Graduating loading
Many people may be de-conditioned from reduced activity loads. You should ensure that you introduce activity loads gradually. Footlab+ can assist with setting programs and guiding on workload ratios.
3) Strengthening
It is important to make sure that strength and agility are addressed for return-to-sport. Footlab+ can devise a proprioceptive and plyometric program to suit your chosen sport.
4) Footwear
Footwear should be in good condition – do you need to have these reviewed? Are they suitable to your sport and conducive to your foot structure. Many retailers are now open again and Footlab+ can advise you on the most appropriate shoe for your sport.
5) Biomechanical factors
Do your biomechanics and/or orthoses need reviewing? Footlab+ is open and using strict COVID-19 infection control protocols to ensure we can comprehensively assess and advise you on the appropriate management plan. See our latest equipment in use in our state for the art Runlab here. We can provide you with a detailed gait and pressure mapping assessment and devise a plan to improve your performance.
